Thank you for taking the time to review our festival. We believe passionately in the concept of the Celebration of Entrepreneurship – a festival celebrating the problem solvers, creative thinkers and innovators of the Gold Coast and Queensland.
This festival is important to the future of the Gold Coast and Australia, because the nature of work is changing. According to former Clinton Labour Secretary Robert Reich and Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes “This is because, automation, globalisation and financialization are taking away the traditional 9.00am to 5.00pm job.†(Marin-Guzman, 2016). This has, and will, continue to lead to an increase in self-employment as larger organisations cut the number of permanent employees and hire expertise on an as needed basis (CEDA, 2015) (Creighton, 2017). This is where entrepreneurship fits in. In the future, workers will not be employed by an organisation (Long, 2014).
Instead, they will become entrepreneurs who develop solutions to problems which are sold to businesses when required. Figures released by former United States President Obama show this is already occurring in the U.S. These figures show almost 95 per cent of new jobs created in the States from 2005 to 2015 were independent contractors, temporary or on-call because “the relentless pace of automation is making a lot of full time middle-class jobs obsolete†(Long, 2014) (Creighton, 2017).
Entrepreneurship represents the new workplace, and this is why our Celebration aims to bring together entrepreneurship with young people, people to share stories, collaborate and learn the secrets to success in the post-industrial workplace.
