Football is a popular sport at Somerset, with the College fielding a number of teams in local football competitions, in APS and in regional football and futsal tournaments. With a focus on a holistic, player-centred environment, our students learn a love of the game and learn to play the Somerset way.
Our football programme in our earliest years focuses on natural development through students in Years 1 to 3 learning football by playfootball. They discover the possibilities and impossibilities through trial and error, with an emphasis on building a love of the game. As our programme moves through into Years 4 to 6, the focus switches to skill development, with the aim to build a solid foundation including striking, first touch, running with the ball and one on one play.
In Senior School, the focus is on learning to play as a team - teaching our players to apply functional game skills in a team setting, developing tactical awareness, perception and decision making through a game related approach to training and a development as a team.
Football Pathway
With a range of opportunities for students to be involved from lunchtime competitions with futsal, futnet and street football, to a dedicated Future XI and First XI programme, with strength and conditioning sessions, our programme continues to grow and build.
