Somerset at a Glance

Somerset College provides so many opportunities for our students to find their passions, explore their abilities, and achieve personal success and develop a global outlook.

Why should you send your child to Somerset College?

It may be for the College’s magnificent facilities, the teaching and learning programmes in place, the strong pastoral care focus or our extensive co-curricular programmes. All of these help make Somerset but the key is the members of the Somerset Community, the people, who make the College a special place for children. Passionate teachers work with children to expand their horizons and encourage them to become lifelong learners. Parents support the College in many ways and this is a vital aspect in developing the sense of community which is so evident at the College. All of these make it possible for our students to achieve outstanding results and graduate as young men and women well prepared to make a difference in the world of the future.

What makes Somerset College unique?

What makes Somerset College unique on the Gold Coast is that we are an International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP) - an alternative to the Queensland Studies authority programme in Years 11 and 12. International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through inter-cultural understanding and respect. Somerset is unique on the Gold Coast in that essentially all of our Year 12 students will be awarded a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE with an ATAR for tertiary entrance) or an IB Diploma.

Approximately 1540 students attend Somerset College. There are approximately 700 students in the Junior School (Pre-Prep to Year 6) and 780 students in the Senior School (Years 7 to 12).
